Hi guys greetings from Alabama I am a new collector I always had a fascination with German Military equipment and I have acquired a piece that I have very little idea of its origin my father gave this to me claiming our great grandfather fought in the WW2 in Africa as a engineer and looted this off of a German however I dont know if that is really the case. I have the belt and frog its worse for wear and has sat in our closet for almost 20 years I would like to know any history from anyone with more knowledge on its origin and what not the Makers Mark is Carl Julius Krebbs Solingen.

Buckle looks like a regulation Police EM buckle.
Dress bayo looks original, but in really bad condition, but you have the story, and thats priceless.
Carl Julius Krebs was a fine maker(my personal favorite maker) The stag grips were a option, so the police officer was probably upper grade.

Thanks for the info Ed its very valuable knowing the origin of the piece and I hope to get more Bayonets and the like in the future. Is it wise to attempt restoration or should I not interfere I am mainly mentioning the bayonet and buckle I know very little of leather restoration and I believe its too far gone?

Restoration is a bad word when it comes to historic items.
Anything you can get off the bayonet with wax and elbo grease is ok, but not much else.
Keep your eyes open, this past 6 months I have picked up two Carl Krebs dress bayos for about $100.00 each with nice frogs.
Other forum guys can be of better help on restos.
leather is tricky, you can apply leather softener, but remove all that you can afterwords.

Question is there anything else as the parts are mixed, the bayonet is a KS98 dress piece, but the scabbard looks like a S84/98 in LW frog, ball finial should be proofed, under frog probably maker and serialing, all metall parts should be gently cleaned or soaked with oil. b.r.Andy

Semi chrome to clean bayo then renwax. A safe good combination I believe.

Very gently with the simichrome, the Renwax will protect it in the future. Sometimes, I find that application of Renwax with some elbow grease will remove most surface grunge.
