yes,, the terrible winter and the slow season.. Not much on auctions, not many flea markets / bazaars etc. Terribly slow until th Spring

My self, had a tough last year.. Odal a dear friend for over 10 years.
See,, I had given up on doing the book.. But he kept on me for week after week after week. I had a ton of research material. All in German of course and would have been the iceing on the cake. Undeniable proof all from period trade union booklets from 3rd reich jewelers, engravers, pressmen. He was going to help with translations and I was doing to the write ups.. You see the publisher had told me the book was way too large! There was enough for at least 2 if not 3 books! So I agreed to cut it down,,but wanted the 1st book to be big with this new material I had found.
At $20 to $30 a pop I had over 100 of them at Odals So I agreed and he was starting to help with some translations. Then the worst thing imaginable happened.. A black day,,a day I'll always remember that sick feeling I got in my stomach,,Odal,,Goetz, had died.. In the over 10 years I knew him I showed him everything I had, whatever he didn't knw he soon did.. His translations were pretty good and I was starting to do the writeups,, , we were close friends without ever meeting,,then gone.. Life is short my friends and only the good die young,,and he certainly was one of the best of us,,I'll never forget him.

The research material? Well, I had anotherfriend here do a translation for a letter I had written to his widow. ,, I had written emails.. I had another German friend write them.. All, everything I tried and nothing.. At first I just send a condolence card saying how much we respected him, and all loved him.. No answer.. I waited,,a long time. Then wrote about IF she needed any help about liquidated anything,,or if she just needed values etc. I'd be glad ti help.. Again,,nothing.. I waited.. Then wrote about and show a couple photos about the research materials,,that I'd be more than happy to pay for her time to box them up and of course pay to have them sent to me. and again nothing.. Can't blame her,,her other half,,the love of her life,,father of their children,,taken from them. I don't understand Gods reason for things but understand her grief. I lost me Father last year and I'm still not over it. Maybe I never will be. So can't blame her if she doesn't want to be bothered with some crazy American and a stupid forum that took up too much of her beloved husband s time with this hobby..

The book? I'd sitting in a big bin with my original source material I had here,,90 % done and ready to go to publisher. BUT,,how things are lately,,you guys DEMAND 100% proof,,and you know what,, I don't blame you. That's what I wanted to give you. Unrefuted , unedited, period proof. I have it without the German Trade books... But it really would have been the icing. I don't know what to do,,continue, let it go, what... Either get to work every bit of my spare time and write, do it with little of the German proof, but I DO have enough.... OR have a good old SA book burning party and let it all burn. Let the counterfeiters learn on their own..

Sorry for the long post if I bored you sleep but your ALL good members and I feel you deserved a explanation On what has been going on with the book project.. I've got some decisions to make,,you guys have a comment,,a 'go to hell Gaspare',, you write it up!, whatever I'll read them. smile , thanks and have a blessed holiday season...,Gaspare

Gaspare,

For what it is worth from a relatively new member, I would love to see your book come to fruition. We have been waiting so long. It would be such a shame to have done all your hard work, especially given your amazing knowledge of the subject, to give up now. I think that it would also be a fantastic tribute to our friend, Goetz.

I am sorry that you had a tough year, and admire your openness and honesty. I hope next year will be a great one for you.

All the best,

Stephen

The reference book would be a great tribute to your friend and your 10-year friendship. Definitely a labor of love and respect for the hobby, your friend and contributors.
As to the original source material - if you still have some on hand, print it without translation. I am sure you are hesitant to contact the family further. Grieving takes time as you well know.

Hang tuff Gaspare.

That?s some nice treasure you have there, Gaspare. Love that SS ring, and the blue DLV too. In the group of the 20 rings, I have a Latvian one very similar to the one on the top left of your photo. Mine has an adjustable band. Only time I have seen that on a ring.

Whoa!!! The Yammy G, the Yammy!!!

The ring book is the single most needed and wanted reference book to be published and talked about in years! AND the jump still needs to be planned and executed. That would be most fun!!

Merry Christmas my friend to you your family.

Cheers from the hills bro,

hdmarley

red bike is a wartime bike that we bastardized to use for a shop bike..45" flat head...

Nice sports ring [D.T.],, hard to date but with the oaks etc. I'd like to think wartime,,it also matches perfectly to some period ads..

OH yeah me,,circa 1977. This has been published before as some say d'ont post photos of yourself.. its been out there. Daytona beach baby on a rat Triumph,,,actually sold some rings to buy it as a wreck and got it together for M/C school back then!!
Always rings!! Wish I had them all back but life goes on...

Have fun guys,,remember,,all this is supposed to be fun.. Happiest of Holidays to you all.. Over and out...................
