A quick backstory; My daughter has always worked really hard at her studies. This has been true since the first grade it seems. When she reached high school, I built her a shotgun (I work for a firearms company) while on my breaks from the routine shotgun building I was doing every day. Now, she is in her first year of college and continues to work very hard and do very well. She already has enough credits that she is a sophomore and made the Deans List first semester as well as acceptance to an honor society. For her work, and since she loves horses, tonight I put the following item on hold for her and will get it prior to her coming home for the summer. I went with this because as well as her love of horses, the German armed forces were the last really to use "cavalry" to any large extent in the modern era, and this is representative of that bygone time. And yes, she also collects WWII items. These images are the sellers and not mine. As always, comments are welcome and thanks for looking! Edit - I forgot to add that it is an Alcoso made Lion Head Cavalry Officer sword.

Hello Thanks. I want to get the eyes replaced on it though. Hello carpediem, this certain model NEVER has had glass eyes. Any alteration (setting of glass eyes) would ruin it?s historical worth. There are a lot of models which did never had glass eyes set in. Thanks. A Weimar period piece? This certain saber is either a Weimar period piece or a piece of earliest IIIR vintage. But generally sabers with crossed swords or crossed canons have been produced long into the IIIR period. Regards,

I was wondering if it was maybe a IIIR piece or not and there doesn't seem to be a 100% way of knowing. The range of Weimar to early IIIR is good enough for me. I was wondering about the eyes also and was going by what the seller had said. They said the eyes are missing. I guess I will be sure the moment I see how the eye sockets are formed. If it didn't have them, I would never add them.

Welcome to the forum, wotan I think did a good job of summarizing its being a correct as manufactured period item. As to where this saber probably fits in you have the best of two worlds in that many Weimar era officers remained in the Army. And probably did not see a need to get a new sword as the same model was for sale in both time periods. Best Regards, Fred.

Trying to get it shipped to me this week so I can give it to my daughter when she gets home from college in a couple weeks.

Ha ha, thanks! These are the things that I hope my daughter will keep and enjoy long after I am gone. To keep with the whole cavalry and horse theme, I added this to the order. Again, these are the sellers' photos.
