Here a better close-up photo . What a face ! It seems this man has seen a lot ; like the horrible fighting in the trenches of WWI and now the bombing of his town at the end of WWII ! This just based on his age and the late date of 14.1.45 of the drawing .

Actual based on that he has a silver bullion chincord on his visor cap , his rank would have been ' Meister '. Here the artist's signature and the date of 14.1.45.

A neat drawing Bernd. The artist gave this policeman a very humanized look to his face. This drawing captures a fellow who has been through the war(s).

Bernd... A SUPER Addition to your Super Collection of Polizei! I think that these 'Ancillary' type items really add a special dimension to a Collection. (I enjoy adding Photos, Post Cards, Stamps, Documents, etc. to compliment the Collection.)
The Art Work is like a Photo, but it's even better, as it is signed and dated by the Artist. It brings in a human dimension to add to the Cloth, and Metal, and Leather items which we so enjoy collecting. A Great Find! CONGRATS ...Dave/dblmed

Dave : Thanks for your kind remarks . Here now the one I cherish the most : a color pencil drawing of my Dad and at that time Lt.Heinz Ostermann of the Munich Schutzpolizei , done by one of his fellow officer's . The Drawing is on brownish paper and measures 10 by 14 -inches .It is signed by : 'Franz Hausmann '; gives the location 'Mchn' for Muenchen ; and is dated : '16.11.41 '. Since my Dad was born on the 5th of March , 1908 , he would have been 33 years old at the time of the drawing .

Like you , I have collected some photos , shooting documents and painting /drawings of other service branches , since one hardly ever sees police items . Here one I just got yesterday ; a soldier from WWI . This color pencil drawing is signed and dated 1917. Again what expression on that face !

Bernd, not just one but three rather seldom encountered drawings of policemen, very nice! It is rather interesting to see the different expressions captured by the individual artists viewpoint. Is your treasured artistic drawing of your father also framed?

The base of the drawing states his rank and name and location as : 'Kriegswerkmeister Oskar Roesch,-Im Osten , April 1941' and the artist's name as ' Hugo Geissler '. At that time the German mountain troops were fighting in the Kaukasus mountains towards the Black Sea. In fact , since I can see a change there, I think the artist had stated the location as 'Im Kaukasus' first , but had to change it to the general statement ' Im Osten'; 'In the East '!

Bernd .... What wonderful "I was there" Art. Fantastic & you get to enjoy and appreciate the Historical Significance of it every day!
I think that you have the Market cornered! These just don't show up all that often.
I believe that I one, somewhere, and will look for it - but yours are the TOPS. Many of the men have that "1,000 yard Stare" that tells us that their eyes have seen ...too Much.
Txs for Sharing... Best, Dave/dblmed

..and a close-up again . The drawing is signed by the artist , E. Maselermann and is dated August 1916 . I knew Mr Rueter when he was a teacher in Luebeck , Germany . Based on a document I have and since he was a teacher, he was assigned as a teacher to ' Marinehelfer ' in Hamburg from Jan . 1945 to the end of WWII. I also got his Party Badge .

..AND now a photo of his oldest son , Klaus Rueter . Klaus was born 7-16-1923 , was in the HJ, did RAD service , and joint the LW at the start of WWII. The photo shows him as 'Fahnenjunker'and pilot in 1944.

..and a close-up again . Klaus served as pilot of a ME 109-2G in Italy in 1943/ 44 . He was KIA in defense of the Reich over Belgium on 8-20-1944 . He was shot hanging in his parachute after he had bailed out of his plane !!! This was told to me by his younger brother Juergen . Juergen was in the HJ and served as LW Flackhelper in Luebeck during WWII. I got Klaus's unmarked Pilot Badge, HJ Pin , Party Badge , DRL-Sports Badge, 3 gull silver bullion Glider cloth badge . I also got his RAD service photo booklet and a photo album of his LW service with great photos he took and all with captions and dates from his traing to his flying in Italy . I also got a small model of his ME 109-2G that his ground crew made ; the underside of the wooden base has a paper tag that reads : 'Messerschmidt - Jaeger - ME 109-g2 --10.11.43' It is also interesting that this small plane has the 'Africa palm tree' insignia in a shield painted on the left side of the nose ; which I assume was the insignia for the unit !!!
