Dear all,

I have the possibility to buy a stone mint transitional double marked Eickhorn next month. What are the things to look for? It's unbelievable that the cross guards have not the tiniest problem of plate lifting. Even not on the edge were the plating make contact with the wooden handle. Could it be that they used another material than zinc? Iron for instance, like for early HJ knife pommels or so? Or would it be just extremely well preserved zinc based material?

I assume the fittings of the scabbard must be plated chromed steel, and the pommel nut also from plated steel? The pristine leather hanger is Assmann marked on the metal parts. The eagle inset in the grip is in aluminium and the scabbard is painted in a rich brown.

Pics as soon as I have him home...

Ans what are the thoughts here about the transitional Eickhorn posted on WAF which lacks screws for the scabbard fittings?

Regards, Wim

Thanks Jonathan. Maybe they are still made from nickle silver. At first sight they looked chromed but I'm not sure anymore. They look very shiny but polished nickle-silver looks shiny as well..
