I do not ' have never owned a dagger Damascus.
I have impression that it is an engraving upon' acid.
The Eagle seems odd to me.

Hello Blondin, when I first saw your post I did want to look at and answer but then unfortunately I got distracted...
When I saw your thread again you wrote that you found your answer yourself so I thought there would be no additional answer necessary as you have been right:
The blade seems to be etched damast and an old, well known fake. Moreover the eagle s gilding clearly has been badly improved with improper gilt laquer, the same I think is valid for the pommel swaz.
For sure something an honest collector would not want in his collection.

Yes, the Gooney bird 'eagle' is the dead give away on this fake blade:)
