Hi everyone!
just wanted to show my new purchase for my
dak ring collection.
Its a neillo style dak 1941 ring.
looks like a higher end made Libyan made ring. stamped T900. so a higher silver content than the T800 rings. Plus the detail is much nicer than my other neillo rings.

cheers everyone!

Does look similar that's for sure! I've seen that ad- have one in my photo archive! My stamp looks different, though, but it's a "T800". Don't know much about the T900s except as you mention higher grade of silver..

hi mike! yes i got 2 dak rings with the T800 stamp. ive only seen a couple T900 stamps on dak rings. and there usually niello high end dak rings. the camel and mosques are usually really detailed compared to the T800 stamped rings. heres a picture of a T900 stamp ring with a hallmark stamp as well.
cheers!

The ring is looking pretty good,,not really liking the stamp though. Could just be my monitor..
Try and make some better shots. IF your 'macro' isn't so good I've seen nice shots thru a large magnifying glass!

So with a ring looking in such fine condition as that you should see the lines are carved, made, [dug out] with a bit, they should look sharp...
Same with the stamp,,should be nice and clear.. Hopefully all is well with it.

The ring itself looks on this rather small pics so far good.
But the hallmarking looks not like a clear and fine punched in one.
Real don`t know what i should think about.

hi gotz!
which one bothers you with the T900 stamping? i hope this picture helps. i find the stamping is really deep in the silver. where most rings ive seen are less deep. this ring doesn't have a hallmark stamp. just the t900 stamp. the above picture with the hallmark was a different ring that i was showing Mike. thanks gotz!

An old and well known problem.
Real not easy to make good, large and clear pics of a piece of jewelry.

On the last pic the hallmark looks much better.
Looks it is depending of quality, angle and light while taking the pic.

you know this ring is a bit worrisome to me also. Wish you could get a good clear photo up.. There are ways [I just don't know how] to get big clear photos up..
I set a big file size on cam, then take photo with ring real small,,then crop to just the ring,,usually works..

I think in the computer help section there is a way that shows ways to posting large clear photos..

well after seeing these photos,,this is either the worst quality DAK ring ever made!,,,OR a fake..
I'm really thinking fake.. What is that hole on the front?
The content is looking like a cast.
What is the date 19 m? H? ?
The carved lines have no structure,,no design they are trying to make. Just looks like cuts, marks..

No offence meant,,its not something I'd want in my collection. IF you got it in a load of trade and it didn't count for much towards the trade and you really like it,,then fine.. But if is counting for a bunch of money, $100. or even more.,,No way!

I'll certainly raise a flag on many of the points G makes. But I've been to he Mideast- I'm not certain it's NECESSARILY casting causing ALL the pits in SOME of those rings... it's sand! let me put it this way. If you're in the desert- sandstorms are no joke! They kill people and suffocate horses and all kinds of stuff!! I would imagine that a dak unit? You would get sandblasted!! Here's my experience in a nutshell.... I got sand in places I didn't know I had!

Just figured I'd throw my two cents in. Todd, IMHO your ring(s) look fine, exactly what I would expect to see from a Libyan or Tunisian DAK. As was pointed out, these were old world artisan made rings, not the precise machine made German ones..production flaws are the norm. I would be leery of one that didn't show certain flaws. As far as numbers/letters go, some are quite good, and others barely legible. Mistakes often happened. I included pics of an Oran ring with a backwards N, and a Morocco ring spelled with a "T". Also here are pics of my Libyan made US ring, niello and silver. There are about 6 small pock marks in the cartouche..something in the production process made this common. And your T900 mark is salty but fine. Here is an example of a poorly stamped T800 mark.

thanks gaspare and mike! and thanks gaspare for the great close up shots. i love dak rings due to the fact that they were purchased in the location of battles. no other ring can say that. they bought them while in towns or cities and were fighting in these countries. very cool! cheers to you both!

Here are a couple more Libyan rings shown the simple style of the embellishments, and the basic cut design borders. These are pretty much standard on most of these rings. I wouldn't say your rings are low quality, and I don't believe they are fake. I would say they are the average quality you would find in an African made DAK.

re missing 1, that ring shown looks like it never had the full date on it, the nelio is perfect where the 1 should be, why the last number is missing is a puzzle. mike

here's how most of the rings were bought.

This is from a series of shots showing the transaction.

-soldier finds sale booth-soldier tries on different rings- photo of selection of rings.
They will be in my book in nice large size nice and clear. Sorry but had to keep small here and red stripe to keep from being 'stolen'.

This is the soldier trying on rings at the sale booth:
