I know this has the US type of wire and most collectors would run and say its a fake. I have been doing some research and the US did export farming equipment and textiles to the European area so could it be possible that this might have been picked up by a soldier somewhere over there and attached to this lid??? I only say this because of the age of the wire and how it has melded into the paint over the years. This wire has been on this lid for a long time and I know the fakes are getting better but they cant age something as good as Mother Nature. What are your thoughts??? I had 50/50 when I posted it on Wehrmacht Awards site.

You have the diehards that said it could never happen but if you look at the US exports for agriculture and even more poultry exports is shocking. When was this type of wire produced? If this type of wire has been in production since the 30's then there is no reason why it cant be found on some helmets.

Thanks Andy and I totally agree. There is no way of knowing when it was applied to the lid and it has been on there for a long time. Mark
