I would say fake. The stag grips look to be made from wood or something other than stag with that very unusual color. The grip emblem resembles a later war eagle but it's sloppy & could be a postwar replacement. The hilt may be period as with the clamshell but your pictures aren't detailed enough to tell. The blade might be period but it's probably from a standard KS98 dress bayonet. That WKC mark has been seen on many modern fakes so I don't know about that one. The scabbard is from a hirschfnger & not a police bayonet. If this is something you're considering, I'd pass it over fast.

Fitz,

I think this piece is a little different from the usually seen WKC fakes which are fashioned to look like longer bladed cut downs with the early type eagle & no clamshell. One observation, the finish on the clamshell looks different than that on the crossguard.

The pommel on this one might be period but I can't tell from the pics. I guess it's possible this one may be a legit private purchase example with replacement grips & grip emblem, both of which are obvious replacements IMHO. I know WKC made a decent number of these pieces with the obverse maker mark under the clamshell.

I'd love to see some better pics of the pommel & blade if possible.

Looks like a forestry scabbard of sorts as well. Too many different parts that lack detail and quality. What are the grip plates made from? They look like wood
