So was in a gun shop in Rochester new York And the guy had a letter opener made of brass proudly 8 inches in length. It was decorated in oak leaves and acorns .The guy said a older man come in selling a bunch of Nazi stuff he got from the war. As he was leaving he said to the guy that bought everything that he was in the troop that went into the berghof. Everyone was grabbing stuff and he found this on the desk. The man asked if he would write that down and sign it the old man said he didn't want anything to do with those Nazi bastards and left. So does any one have a picture of hilter's desk in the berghof?

hi reichstall
this story sounds all to familiour to most of us guys that has been in this hobby for the last fifty years i had the pleasure of meeting many ww2 american and english veterans . most of the time when i bought the war treasures from the veterals i asked them where what part of germany did you get this militaria most said hitler bunker i listened but never would dare call any veteran a lier its just a story and god bless all of them. i remember one south pacfic veteran that had two japanese samouri swords taken from general yamashita nicked named by our soldiers the tiger of malasia and he was well i said sir these swords reguardless of who owned them it would be hard to prove they were general yamashitas swords but i would buy them any way he then admited well perhaps i took them off a piles of samouris when i was comeing home you know there was thousands of these swords in piles for the takeing hope every body enjoys these stories thanks have a nice day andy militarynut

Story is worth 0, if the old man wrote the story, signed it and posed for a picture, not much more if any.
That said, who knows it might be legit, really no way to prove it either way.
There are a couple pics of the Berghof desk if you google them up, none seem to show an acorn festooned letter opener.

Not to take this sideways- but the pic that skynyrd posted.... Weren't some of the desk items acquired by Craig gottlieb for auction/auctioned off? I remember reading about this sometime maybe a couple years back but never chose to follow up on the story... Anyone know what happened with that?- and I also do not see a letter opener on the desk here in the picture.

I think the desk CG was involved in is the one where the Munich Agreement was signed if I'm not mistaken.

"allegedly signed" is more correct.

Reminds me of a story from a antique shop guy who claim he had Bormans personal straight razor good luck proving it.
