I'm pruning my small SS collection. After my two chained daggers I have for sale a very nice SS SD Lightweight helmet.

I purchased this M34 SS SD helmet back in 2004 from Peter Whammond at The Collectors Guild. I'm sure Peter won't mind me using his original description of it :-

M34 DOUBLE DECAL HELMET. (Stahlhelm M34) Early, light weight, M34 sheet metal construction helmet. Helmet retains about 87% of its original smooth parade green paint with small areas of light to moderate surface spotting. First pattern SS runic decal, as introduced on August 12TH 1935, with sharply angled black runes on a silver "tinfoil" shield shaped base is retained about 80% with a couple of small scratches. Silver background portion of the runic decal shows light age yellowing. Party shield decal with a black canted swastika on a white circular field with red shield shaped base is retained about 70% with numerous small scratches. Helmet has an exaggerated, embossed, ventilation opening to each side of crown. All four liner retaining rivets intact. M31 style, tan leather liner shows minor chafe wear to edges but has all eight fingers and original tie string intact. One finger shows some moisture staining which has resulted in drying out the affected area. Liner is well marked with black inkstamped size marking, "57", and handwritten owners name, "A. Jawinski". Leather to liner is still quite supple. All four natural cork spacer are intact between the liner and the helmet shell. Reverse interior neck guard apron has hand painted numerals, "22" in pink. No manufacturer or sizing markings are visible on the helmet. Helmet comes complete with original, unique, quick release, blackened leather chinstrap. Thick, blackened leather chinstrap features a pronged steel buckle and a large quick release pressure clip. Chinstrap could be buckled in the traditional manner but could also be removed quickly with the quick release clip. Chinstrap shows moderate surface cracking but in very sound. Nice early example, super condition and untouched. Beautiful!

This is a bit special because it has the owners name written on the lining. Ross Kelbaugh of the Military Research Service kindly looked up the name Jawinski at the the National Archives for me. He found that there was only one A Jawinski served in the SS out of 6 million personnel. With him
having the rank of SS enlisted man there aren't many documents on him but the most interesting one shows that during his time in the SS he served at a 'labour camp for Jews' called Buchenhof which was in Wartheland , Poland.
(http://www.bundesarchiv.de/zwangsarb...2&tab=7&id=570). Best to use a translator facility.
There is also an application form to get married which also shows his Buchenhof address (dated 21,11,1941) and and a copy of the page that his name appears on in the Index of SS Members.

Jawinski's file from Ross also comes in the sale of the helmet. It's not often you get an attributable helmet like this so price wise I was thinking of 4250.
PayPal as friend or bank transfer would be fine.

Thanks for looking.
