While attempting to squeeze a donation for the troops from a neighbor I asked about the sword he had. The blade is 21 1/2' tip to habaki, very low profile temper line. I took it apart but didn't see any writing on the tang. Unfortunately my picture came out less than I wanted. Is it possible to tell anything for these photos?

I believe that is a Kyu Gunto sword dating to around 1900.

Thanks Vern.
Bill Rannow has given me reason enough to go back and get better photos.
"It is a wakizashi (medium length blade) in Russo Japanese war mounts.
The blade is self looks to be from the Koto period (1500s) and has
been shortened."
I never knew they made them in the shorter version.

Hello Militarynut,

With respect I suggest that blade is in Army mounts not Navy mounts. Have another look at the backstrap and let me now what you think.

Regards,
Stu
