Quality tailor made example of an early war period M36 pattern service tunic as worn by a Heer General of the Infantry, Artillery, Mountain Troops or other arms. It is produced from a finely woven field grey wool trikot having a dark green wool collar, pleated pockets with scalloped flaps, deep roll cuffs and a five button front. All of the buttons are of the pebbled, solid back Officers variety retaining a full gilt finish. The collar has Generals pattern collar tabs finely hand embroidered in gilt wire on bright red wool badge cloth and hand applied. Each shoulder is adorned with sewn in Generals shoulder boards of plaited round cords (Rundschnurr) in gilt & silver with two silvered, large size pips over a base of red wool badge cloth. Hand applied to the right breast is a Generals pattern breast eagle of hand embroidered gilt wire on a backing of dark green wool. The left side chest has loops for a long ribbon or medal bar and two sets of award loops on and below the chest pocket. The right chest pocket retains a set of award loops that is likely for the German Cross. The interior of the tunic is fully lined in light grey-green rayon cloth having sleeve interiors of striped white rayon cloth. This interior is completed by a cloth edged weapons hanging strap with nickel clip and seamed slot behind the lower left pocket flap. The left side interior also features a vertical “hidden” side pocket with the stitched outline of the original tailor’s tag that was unfortunately removed. The overall condition of the good is clean with light signs of wear and age toning to the metallic insignias.
