Just going on one blurry picture... Thought I might be looking at an m35 shell- i think it turned out to be a good purchase! The shell is straight and intact no dents or serious scrapes- some rusting for sure- but still some original black! And it had all the rivets- no washers or liner but hey- inside the left ear was ET64 so it looks like a nice straight piece! Still can see a good outline of the heer eagle- and a trace of the national shield- not quite a relic- but not a perfect helm by any means... Should I remove the rust? Or is it good to go like this? Opinions wanted- and appreciated!

Good lid, DO NOT REMOVE THE RUST, Just like on any other relic with natural condition, rust, patina, etc you remove that, you will regret it.I come across Civil War belt buckles that the moron has buffed out t a semi shine, next to worthless, like these nit wits that *polish old helmets, daggers with mineral oil, baby oil, WD-40!!!LOL, they put a shine on the reliv that can never disappear

Just worn away.... But it's an untouched honest piece, that alone means something to me... I rather like it, actually!

99.9% of the people on here know more about helmets than I do, but that red rust would bother me. I'd have to put some form of oil on it to slow down the oxidation.

I am new to collecting helmets and have only two at the present time. I certainly don't have the knowledge or expertise to advise at this point. But, I have learned from other collectors and information on other forums to leave it as it is. If you clean it, you are cleaning away its history. Rust also bothers me but the consensus from most collectors is to leave it untouched.
By the way, I like it.

So I was cleaning out my garage and happened upon this guy again, decided to get it outside and look at how bad or good it is- saw something interesting inside I hadn't before... Btw looks like 4782 on the roll stamp and ET 64 under the ear...and something else between the two.... Some words or maybe initials? No idea but it's interesting!
I can really make out the national shield over the left ear and the swas isn't so good on the right, but it's a good m35 IMHO. Wonder what the letters are?
