I'm not familiar with this type of Third Reich K98 dress clam shell bayonet and would appreciate any opinions on it and what group the Eagle may stand for.
Thanks

hi dow
hope this e mail finds you doing good this dress bayonet you show here in my honest opinion i believe the clam shell with army eagle was added to this nice dress bayonet in the last few years i have seen these white metal clam shells poping up here n there it appears to newish for a 70 year old bayonet . it certainly looks handsome with this clam shell on it but again in my opinion its not period done perhaps outhers can give thier opinions hope they agree thanks god bless andy militarynut

Thanks for the reply which explains why I haven't seen a bayonet like this before. All clam shell bayonets I have seen have stag grips.

The rivets, especially the reverse rivets are wrong. Can't tell on my phone but it looks like the obverse bakelite is buggered which is often not a good sign. I would be surprised if this was a period item as is.

Thanks for the replies this bayonet was sold to a friend of mine on gunbroker.com. Fortunately he didn't pay to much for it. I have noticed a trend on GB where well known gun sellers are passing off bad German WWII items such as SS buckles, badges etc and getting away with it passing under the radar. This would not happen here or on WAF.

hi guys
billy g you have sharp eyes you just put the icening on the cake the reverse rivits are wrong one picture when i looked at that angle i thought i seen a little buggering on the grip but then i said maybe not . this proves four eyes are better then two thanks billy g yes its true gun brokers and some of thier dealers who has been selling fake third reich items for big dollars like dow says well he only paid 150.00 for it well any body can eat 150.00 im sure that chump change in this hobby but after a while the draw gets filled up with fake mistakes total them up and it will cost you thousands when you could pay a little more for a period made piece with a guarentee its real not fake i personily dont buy anything from gun brokers thats like buying tomatos in a gun shop helloaaa whats wrong with this picture thank you every body andy militarynut

Sorry I'm a little late to the party I don't get on here much now days. I happen to see this on gunboards a little while back and thought the same thing about the rivets looked tampered with. And the eagle I didn't quite recognize.

Happy to see the owner received more additional information here. I had thought about posting a link to here because of course there are a lot of dress bayonet collectors here so I'm told:) some forums frown on linking elsewhere sometimes and I don't post there very often.

I'll try to stop by here more often in the future guys.
