Hi All,

I have a few more questions for the all the collectors.
And thank you for the help in id-ing it.

Any care advice for the etched dress bayonets? obviously making sure the scabbard release is depressed to keep from scratching the etch, but anything else? I've only cleaned the blade with water at this point, but the bayonet has pretty much been neglected in one safe or another for it's 71 years of life in the US. I was wondering if using Renaissance Wax on the blade is a good idea or not....?

Second, can anyone point me in the direction to an appraiser or an honest dealer who we can pay to determine a value? Anyone the members of the forum trust?

Thank you!

I keep my blades out of the scabbards to keep them from being scratched... that is, until I ship them, then I put them into the scabbard (not necessarily all the way if the fit is too snug).

Cleaning with a non oil based wax, such as Renwax, or using gently dish soap and warm water is ok as long as you thoroughly wipe the water off the blade and anywhere else it may be.

This is not a rare etch, nor is it a configuration that is hard to find and the condition is not great. I would think that a dealer would list this blade for sale at $600-800. If sold collector to collector, it would go for 20-30% less than that. If you want to sell it on a risk free, hassle free basis, try consigning it on a dealer site.

Tom Wittman at http://www.wwiidaggers.com/ is a good guy, so is
Paul Hogle at http://www.lakesidetrader.com/

Either will give you a good indication of what kind of retail this could sell for and sell it for you at a 25% commission.

John

Thank you for responding John. I'll store it out of the scabbard, and give it a light renwax coating after i wash it with some soap. Thank you for letting me know the rough value on it, my husband was offered $80.00 for it, not that long ago... then i stepped in to figure out what we had. smile

Thank you for all your help. Tracy
