hi members
thanks to vern for putting this scarce and possibly rare walther ppk pistol 7.65 call . it came with two walther clips and a black akah marked holster i have had many walther ppks and pp models but never one with the abrivation on the right side of slide shows C.P.B. i showed this to joe Wotka when i got it two years ago he told me that dieter marshall shows it in his book with this early serial range number as Criminal Police Berlin then later on the germans used the K for criminal then joe wotka feels its not what dieter marschall believes it to be joe feels it central bank berlin change over from the big 10 milimeter reichs revolvers to walthers so perhaps one member here can unravel this mystery my gut feelings is Criminal Police Berlin prove me wrong thanks guy enjoy god bless andy militarynut

I believe Joe now thinks it is a bank pistol. I thought it might be a distributor for years but the bank identification makes sense. It is known that the Reichsbank had similar commercial Walther pistols so why not a bank with these initials?

hi orpo
thanks for your post i am very thick skined it takes time to convince me after over fifty years in this great hobby starting around 1960 buying every pistol rifle from veterans thier familys this is the first walther that i have ever seen in these years so to me its kind of special and rare wheather its a bank pistol or Criminal Police Berlin we can only go by what book sellers who do thier research and can prove what they print i made a lot of mistakes selling off rare guns on somebodys say so then found out some thing different but truthfully it isnt over till the fat lady sings and so far she hasnt sung still a rare walther ppk to see any one here can examine it at sos show kentucky in february thanks god bless andy militarynut

I don't want to speak for Joe but he mentions the possibility of this marking indicating the "Comerz und Privat Bank" (CPB) in a NAPCA article. Joe points out that his research shows the bank changed its name slightly circa 1941 so your early pistol with a 90 degree safety would fit into this time line. It seems to be a good fit but who knows for certain?

yes joe did say that the bank changed thier name to comerz he also checked with the bank to see if they had any records showing this change over with buying these C.P.B. waltyher pistols who knows i might live a few more years and some one might relese a few records pointing us in the right direction criminal police berlin or bank guard for the largest bank in berlin germany at the time of the third reich thanks for your time and intrest in my rare walther pistol thanks andy militarynut

I am sorry but I do not have Dieter's book.

You have a very scarce pistol at any rate.

That C.P.B. has been argued over for years. I've seen them explained as capture markings, distributor markings, and a dozen other theories. It seems nobody has been able to prove the meaning for 100%.

FYI, about 12 yrs. ago a guy in Minnesota was selling one and his "theory" was that C.P.B. stood for Chemnitz Police Bureau. Regards, Leipzig

I can't speak for Mr. Marshall, but I believe it was just an educated guess based on his vast background of researching and collecting. I don't believe he ever had any actual proof.
