I know that many hold that scabbards with pushed out scabbards bands are post-war. Only scabbards with separately applied bands are pre-1945. My question to the more seasoned collectors here is: Were some late war daggers made with pushed out bands? Thanks for your feedback.

EICKHORN has had the navy scabbards with the "built-in" ("pushed out") scabbard bands. It is quite easy: current knowledge is that brass scabbards with this certain configuration are postwar, iron scabbards (with a surface "gilting") are period, pre may 45. Simply to check with a magnet. Regards,

Well I heard there is a solution to all of our problems.. If you want to have pressed bands on a navy dagger and hope this is pre war all you have to do it now is buy a wand... I heard there was a booth at the Kassel Show and they were hot sellers. I also heard they were being used on the new crop of daggers that made there (coming out in society ) there. sort of a joke P.S. Now I know what is going on under the table... Just lightening it up here...

Hmmm That might be "current knowledge" but I'm thinking that there we some made in the period this way? I am sorry but up to now I havenīt seen a brass navy scabbard with built in bands which I would/could trust. The idea of using the iron scabbards had been to spare brass material. These daggers with iron scabbards also mostly have pot metal grip parts. So why going back to brass for the scabbards during the period??? An original dagger with stamped trademark in such a questionable scabbard would be no proof as the scabbard could have been exchanged postwar perhaps to replace a heavy dented one. Just my personal opinion due to experience. But if you do have such a dagger why you donīt show it here Regards,

I don't have one as I try to stay away from controversial items but here's one Late war Eick Just from pics you cannot recognize the scabbard material. As said, the look of the finish is just the same(!), iron or pure brass scabbard material. Would need an in hand inspection with a magnet. Regards,
