i find most WKC etches to be pretty bland and boring. The ones you most often find have the Holler pattern 103 and once you have seen one of those, you have pretty well seen them all.

But, this baby is one sweet etch.

It is a short blade, triple etched and stag gripped shooting prize.

A great stag grip, a nice spine etch and the Officer school etch on one side and Shooting Prize 1932 on the other.

Great bayonet, right...

Imagine my surprise at finding the same type of WKC shooting prize, only with a date two years later and without the stag grips.

This is the same triple etch as above, same school, but the 1934 date.

How did these two together end up in the Kaschai collection, I wonder. But, I do know how they ended up in the JohnZ collection!

JohnZ, first my congratulations to this two nice and interesting bayonets. All shooting price bayonets are rare. For me especially the certain trademark is interesting as it now can be dated relatively pricise around a time frame.

It is NO school etch. "Offizier-Verein" means a (private?) association of officers. The mentioned "107" might stand perhaps in a context of a regiment number.

Regards,

Thank you for your comments and clarification of the term 'Verien'....I thought it was an officer school.

John,

Beautiful bayonets, in every sense of the word. Their beauty is possibly exceeded by their rarity though, even nicer.

I particularly like the vine & leaf bookends, my etched fire bayonet has them as well. Same spine etching too, really nice special order stuff. Congrats my friend.

I can't remember if I had shown these other WKC etches before, so here we go into this thread.

This is a long double etched WKC marked blade. On the obverse, we see the Holler etch pattern 103 and shown on page 235A. The reverse shows a unique spray of oak leaves and can be seen on page 236A.

This is a short blade, single etch WKC marked Luftwaffe service.

Notice that the difference between the regular armed services etch and the Luftwaffe etch is in the centre eagle.

John, just fabulous examples. Thanks for sharing all these fine specimens. And congrats on obtaining this well documented shooting prize.
Are you putting an addition on your house to display all these 3rd Reich edged weapons. My gosh, between your 2nd model Lufts and etched bayonets, where do you put them all??

Best wishes,

Mat J

John Z...great looking pieces. On the very first stag gripped piece, it has the metal backed frog with DRP stamped on the back. Does the DRP marking pertain to the Reich's patent office or the postal branch? I have a DRP (#1141) marked bayonet that would just love that frog <<EG>> what are your thoughts on that frog?

DRP relates to the patent office, not the post office.

As JohnZ has stated, D.R.P on the (metal part) frog is patent related, DRP on the blade of bajonets (mostly WEYERSBERG or ALCOSO) is postal related.
Postal protection force related frogs do have very special stampings.

Hello Baz, "-ern" is only a (legit) combination of the full written "Hundertvierern" and just the figure 104 which needs the "ern" as comradely expression for members of the 104th regiment(?) or other unit formation garrisoned at Leipzig.
Very nice bajonet you show us here, thank you, regards,

Btw:
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Infanterieregimenter/IR11-R.htm
where you see the 5th AND 8th company of IR 11 has had traditionally the "sponsorship" done by the Kgl.(=royal) Saechs. 5. Infanterie-Regiment "Kronprinz" Nr. 104 (an imperial, former unit).

Wotan

Thank you very much for the explanation, it seems as though both of John's and my bayonet are all from the 11th infantry regiment but just different companies, the link you provided is of great interest and explains everything for me.

Fresh from Gary's collection to mine.

This is a 1931 dated triple etch shooting prize by WKC. It uses the same mark as found on my 1932 shooting prize.

Thanks, Gary.
