No details, apparently passed away at home at age 83.
Most here know the sordid history of the man, some good and most bad. Kinda tough to say "RIP", but I guess I just did. He will not be missed. He must have a massive collection, even without the dubious items and fakes. Will be interesting to see if it hits the market en masse, or is parceled out on ebay and forums.

Didn't he have a Himmler SS chair from the castle that was believed to be authentic?

Don't know, I know there has been one floating at germania.com for years, and those guys are about as dodgy as Snyder.
I don't think anyone has said he never had or sold anything authentic, he has. His shenanigans are well documented and extensive enough to not to have to rehash them here.

Charlie was well... Charlie He was in some ways a founder of the hobby. Way back when in the 50's he was rejected from the Gun Shows for his Nazi leanings. Most of the Gun show guys way back were Vet's and they hated the stuff so good ol' Charlie decided to start his own shows. He would set up in the same town as the Gun shows and so it began. He owned some of the greatest stuff over the years. He could be prickly but I never hear of anyone who asked for a refund he didn't take care of.

Still no actual info on his death that I can find, threads about him are being closed left and right at WAF, last couple pages of this one still active http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129&highlight=snyderHis web site still up and running with no mention of his passing. Gaspare, what is a "Super Viet Nam vet" [as opposed to just a Vietnam vet] ?

a real pro war , 'go get'em', 'kill em all', 'kill a commie for mommy' type officer..
Forgot what his rank was but he was up there. Saw a photo of him with attack helicopters and it looked like he was the man in charge...

He was a crook but, then the history of our hobby was filled with crooks from the beginning and there are still more than a few around!

I met Charlie about three years ago at the S.O.S, was interesting to say the least. He had a pretty intense sales pitch, even told me about Ava's panties. Quite a story teller.

Too bad he didn't write a book about his Nam days, would have been interested in that far more than Eva undies - Though with his reputation for BS, might have been half fiction.

My thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones. Reputation and this friggin hobby aside, he was a husband, father grandfather and a human being....not proper to mention someone's passing on a forum and then speak ill of him...very poor taste in remembrance....did he attend the Max show? Regards Ryan

I respect your opinion Ryan but I don't agree - The guy was a POS and it would be pretty hypocritical to speak of him as some golden boy just because he has passed - There is precious little to say of him besides ill. I am not glad he is dead, would not have wished death on him but, by and large, he will be missed by very few.

Hi Doug, I of course hear what you are saying. I knew him only to see him at many past Max shows and spoke to him only a few times back in 1994 and 95.I am only thinking of any family and friends that may google his name and come upon such posts. I would not want to see anything negative written about one of my loved ones. He was a father, a husband and a grandfather and was obviously respected and loved by his family and friends... they, in their defence do not know him as we in the hobby did. Just saying there is no need for negativity in regards to the dead and recently deceased...that's all....it is the decent thing to do... we are above that here, I would like to think cheers and regards to all, Ryan
