Johnny the only comment I can make is the maker mark is very sloppy that in itself is a major red flag.

I don't like it either and the engraving also seems very poor, nothing that a qualified craftman would have done.

Jonny, I would not buy it as the engraving and panel work look much like current eastern block material.

Looks like Goring's "signature" on the blade. Very similar to 1st LW daggers with post-war etching. I think this one is bad.

Thanks guys for your answers,it helps me a lot, together with my feeling about this,I have seen this etching on later General type sword, but never on this early ones, but every time something spesial comes around you just wish it was "that spesial edged weapon"!!! Jonny

Jonny, I have to agree with the others. The last fake LW dagger I remember seeing had better quality etching than this one. So it could be East block, but I have not really been tracking them.
And is that a unit marking I see on the crossguard??? Don't walk away from this one. RUN !! FP

I think the trademark is very sloppy, but I dont know enough about the blade etching to be able to say that it is definately a fake, other than the fact that it is too good to be true. Can those of you who know more than I do,( which is all of you ) point out in some detail the things about the blade etch that are red flags? Thanks! Joe S

Here's a nice makers mark on a LW sword blade. The onliest engraving by hand are the unit marks

I would not know why a kompanie/battalion (stamping) owned sword would bear a HG dedicated etched blade. I think the hardware is good, the blade is bad.

Could be releathered. I will not make that call on the pics provided, though. I would like to see a close up to confirm.
