It's probably artificial Damascus,but is it period ?

What a beautiful & interesting looking sidearm. The blade looks to be artificial damascus. As far as whether it's period, that's the question.

Brass hilt with a peened over tang, I'd say it looks good but I'll defer to the members with more experience in such damascus items.

The trademark is early WKC - WWI or before, I think.

The inscription is in French "...Long live the King to his hunters...."

Detail seems poor on the badge and on the blade for something that early, while the blade looks almost new.

The fittings seem OK on it and I know they used artificial damascus during the Imperial period, I personally do not see any red flags. The blade does look new but it seems to match the rest of the piece so I couldn't say it was OK or not, it really is personal choice,a lot will depend upon how you feel about it yourself.

As in all things don't buy the story buy the piece...As in many collections of quantity there some nice things and some not so nice things..
