Beautiful 2nd model luft dagger by smf with stickbird stamp on the blade. 100% fire gilting to both sides of the swaztica pommel. I unscrewed the pommel to have a look under the pommel and as expected the gold residue remains. I love smf lufts they really stand out!!!! This example is personalised in 3 places. In my collecting field of personalised army daggers i would say for every 100 armys you encounter 15 or so will be personalized. When looking at the same number of 2nd lufts my estimate is 2 out of 100. VERY rare to find a 2nd luft personalised as nice as this. The capital letter B engraved on reverse crossguard. Last name Bonk engraved under crossguard and abbriviated last name Bon. In scabbard throat very nice. The scabbard is the silver plated variety extra cost option from the factory and really rates near mint in the high 90%. Most of the plated scabbards you see heavy lifting and corrosion not this gem really nice as ive scene. Great dark orange grip with the springy wire really sets the contarst of this dagger along with the original mint portapee and near mint hangers. Plated blade also comes in at minty minus the tip, the only distraction of the entire dagger. Somewhere along the way the point has been list to time. This is exactly how i received this dagger from a veterans wife. Never been in a collection, you could easily replace the blade but i dont think there is a need to do so. I took a quick look at the luftwaffe archives and only found 2 officers with the last name Bonk uncommon last name. Both were pilots!! This dagger warrants more research fo sure. This dagger has alot going for it minty gold pommel,personalised in 3 places to a pilot not some paperwork desk officer. Nice set of original hangers and portapee.

If your thinking of pulling the trigger on this Ace what would look better in your trophy room 2 decent 2nd models or 1 bad ******** pilots dagger. This is a good deal as the portapee and hangers are worth about 300. So have at it
