I recently attended the Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association show in Kansas City and picked up a bayonet that I had been wanting for a long time. I was able to pick up a nice USN Civil War Dahlgren bayonet for the Plymouth/Whitneyville musket. This was the first US military use of a knife bayonet and Admiral Dahlgren pushed for its adoption prior to the Civil War.
My bayonet is a transition between the 3rd type and the 4th type identified by Harden and is dated 1864. It is in excellent condition with the later AMES MFg.Co. markings.
