Over 70 years ago, the mightiest fleet ever assembled arrived off the Normandy coast to begin the liberation of the European Continent.

yes the mightyest fleet ever assembled to cross the ocean and in the worst stormy conditions im just wondering maybe you would know i never heard how many of our ships and soldiers were lost at sea just from the stormy seas 70 years ago. also the loss at normandy beach alone the waters were filled with color red blood these men was the greatest generation god bless them all thank daves mom for saving this history best andy militarynut

From the beaches of Normandy the long struggle began to reach the heart of the Reich. The Germans were not an easy opponent at all and the war would end almost one year later.

Here's a poem written by Dr Richard W. Peterson, Sgt I Company, 423 Inf. Regiment, 106 Inf. Division and POW at Stalag 9-A in Ziegenhain (Germany). It pictures all the soldiers that fought for their country:


All men who fought for their country:

Combat veterans hold a secret about life so deep within them that not even they comprehend the power of its mystery.
This great secret cannot be understood by anyone who was never there.
They do not know the secret exists.
So they cannot comprehend the strength it gives to those who do.
We are part of a charmed circle that we keep highly closed praying that no more will ever enter...
