Klaas etches are not found on Eickhorn marked bayonets.

And, the etch sure looks like a laser etched prototype to me wink

So, bottom line is two thumbs down on this one.

Thanks John.

I had my doubts with the Klass etch on an Eickhorn marked blade too...any more opinions welcome please.I was about to purchase this item but it's hard to access when not in hand.

A few more pics...

Darren,

There are some facets of this etch that look like Klaas & a couple that don't. I have to agree with John that the entire etch looks photo applied although maybe it's just the angle.

The fact that it's an Eickhorn marked blade with a suspected Klaas etch, that raises my interest a lot & not in a good way. It's easy to say "never" but most collectors who've been around a while will say "never say never". That said, I'd be very suspect of this bayonet as a whole.

Thanks Billy.

Could you please go into further detail as to your concerns with the Etch?.

When compared to the example shown in Techet book I had noticed that some of the decorative detail on both ends of the Etch and the Eagle itself seemed missing and 'soft' in relative comparison.

I agree with the others. I would expect to only see an Eickhorn style etching on an Eickhorn blade. This is certainly not an Eickhorn proprietary etch template so there is no reason for it to be on an Eickhorn marked blade.

Darren,

The blade etch does attempt to mimic a Klaas style etch pretty well with the borders & other details. The thing that jumped out at me (other than the fact it was on an Eick marked blade) was the font itself. Wayne himself tells us never to say never but when enough red flags are present, it's enough to make a collector nervous.

Here is what a Klaas Luft etch should look like... compare the top and bottom border spacing and the detail of the front and back etch bookends. Not to mention the lettering font.

Over and above that, I do not beleive that Eickhorn, which was a huge maker of proprietary etched bayonet patterns, would ever buy such a pattern from another maker, expecially Klaas.
