Hello All I'm about to purchase a Red Cross Hewer for my collection. I feel pretty confident that it's period although the scabbard has had a repaint which I can live with. Any comments on the dagger would be appreciated, if I'm about to make a big mistake please do let me know. Best regards Luke

Blade has many fingerprints in blade! I would try and get a nicer one with superb blade and leather if you could!
Unless its cheap I would hold out for better!

The pics are very small and do not show details. Nevertheless the hewer looks to be period. But the condition is not overwhelming. It also looks like the reverse grip plate has a part missing. As pvon already did suggest I also would recommend to buy a better conditioned one. DRK hewers in very good condition go for relatively small money if you have time and you are willing to look for. Hello PVON / Wotan
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
I asked the seller to confirm any problems with the grip, he's told me there are no cracks or chips so this must be a reflection from the camera flash, if it's not it will be going back !!
The price he is asking here in the UK is reasonable for the condition and suits a limited budget.
Best regards
