Do you have photos? I've not seen one - though there's plenty I haven't seen.
What leads you to think the dagger came that way as opposed to just having the original leather stripped and the wood underneath painted?
Best, Tyrel

Hi Ty. It just is aged so good as to the match of the scab leather. Couple of spots were the paints worn ,theres no glue just a dard wood grain , Ive heard of 1st lufts having painted grips but I have several DLV and NSFK and never saw this. It looks so good I cant believe my old eyes didnt see it.I'll get a pic soon. T

Tiep,
Never seen one like that before. What's the maker & is it a later production piece? Very interesting variant, if it is a variant.

Tiep, That is very possible but i notice a slight gap between the grip and ferrule ring to allow room for the leather, you mention the color matchs good to the scabbard leather so does the paint perfectly match the scabbard leather color?

The color is just really close but its also very worn. My guess is its been fixed by some previous owner long ago as I have had a few super long time collectors email me and say thats probably the case as they have never seen one and I did as much research as I could and pretty much agree. This is an early dagger and there were no shortages yet at that time on materials or craftsmanship.

Tiep,
Your thought about a previous owner's fixing of the problem of a missing or damaged grip is certainly possible. I've never seen anything like this. It does look like a pretty decent job on it's own. That said, I have to agree with you that during early 3R production, it shouldn't have been that hard to to find a suitable replacement grip.

It certainly doesn't look bad - even if it is a "fixed" dagger. Really, I'd rather have that than one with new leather.
