I saw this at a Show and took these 2 pictures. I don't know much about special etched blades like this and was not able to find any examples like it on line or in my library. Any thoughts on this piece? The seller had it mislabeled as a U-Boat piece. Looks like a Battle Ship to me. At the price offered, It gave me pause. Fake - or great deal...

I particularly like the blue panel etch for $12,500 Ouch! What a lovely piece ! ;-) Sometimes I'm asking myself: Are these dealers aware what they are doing? There are people out there who will not be amused by loosing such an amount of cash. Best; H.

You could help collectors by naming the dealer. Hi Dave, Sorry - just got back from SOS noticed your question. It was an older gent at the the Allentown show named Rodney Brown. He has a museum in New York www.thewarmuseum.com He said that the Dagger Pictured above was featured in a Time Life book series and came from a collection of a partner of his that he bought out. He seemed like more of a history buff and not so much a collector of edged weapons in talking to him. Hope that helps, Scott

Fake or great deal?
In my experience there is no such thing as a great deal. I have had fair dealing with other collectors but from a dealer? You just have to smile while you are being shafted. It just depends on how bad you want something and how much you are prepared to lose to get it. The crooks / dealers and the proliferation of fakes has brought this hobby to it's knees. Fakes that are a lot better than this one!
War is when your government tells you who the enemy is.
Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself.

I agree,
Most of my collection came from fellow collectors or out of the woodwork. I have bought from a few dealers over the years, but the list is not long.. Paul, JR, Houston and a few others I will deal with, but that is about it.

Two most important protective means against Fakes are a knowledge and doubt. As soon as on account of my knowledge or knowledge of my collector's friends a doubt originates, I renounce the piece.
Knowledge is most important. There is still something what one cannot fake.
