Any chance of consolidating some of these ?
Rather unfair to other sellers to repeatedly take over page 1 with multiples of nearly identical items with identical titles.

I don't want to step on anyones toes, and I compliment Gary8 on some very nice, desirable items [though not a cloth/hat guy myself].

Most military forums with sales sections have rules about things like this, which usually require combining multiple similar items into a certain number of separate posts to avoid 1 poster monopolizing premium sales slots. This one apparently does not.
I would like to see the rules amended to cover large, multiple very similar items like this so that the sales section does not get smothered by 1 seller, and on a repeated basis as the posts are bumped every other day or so.

Once again, no offense and I am certainly not trying to step into admins shoes, but common sense would say, hey, is this way to go about posting all of these items ?

Many people tend to browse just the 1st page of sales, figuring that anything else is old, and either undesirable or already seen [and indeed, most often that is the case], when in fact they might well have been posted just hours ago but already buried by this flood.

Please forgive the intrusion Gary8, I know your intentions were not bad. I feel this is a matter that needs to be addressed, will start another thread if desired.

I would guess that is why some post a price and there photos on another server such as Photobucket.Myself I check a couple of times a day and just check the time of the last post.

I have removed Gary8's ads temporarily and requested that he repost, and consolidate his for sale items into 5 items per post.

Thanks to WW2411 for bringing this to my attention. I initially did not understand his concern but after I saw these multiple posts and its effect on the forum I wholeheartedly agreed with his concerns and the concerns of other members.

Good move NoBoZoS, perhaps forum posting guidelines could reflect a multiples policy with the next update.

A one shot affair wouldn't be so bad, and in fact I said nothing the 1st time.
Sales have been slow for everyone though, and the prospect of these being bumped and bumped a couple times a week en masse was none too pleasing.

I have updated the forum rules today which reflects this change.

Though Gary8 should not be singled out because we have other members who currently have multiple postings of items for sale.

I am hoping this rule change will give all sellers equal opportunity on this forum.

I have paid for advertising these items on this forum, what gives you the right to remove my items that I have legally paid for??

I see it is those with little posts that are the most complainers, no wonder this site is going down hill if this is all you have to contribute to this forum.

I expect a full refund and I will take my goods else where

Re-opened for comment.

I think the decision to request that posts of a similar nature be consolidated is good and is in response to member requests.

It should make viewing easier for the members and help sellers since potential buyers will see several similar items together.

A pity to see Gary8 leave the forum. Like Ed Martin, I don't see what the big deal is.
Find something important to complain about.

I did not have a problem with condensing posts in the future, my problem is every single item I had for sale was deleted, that is the problem

This seems very unfair to Gary. John P has thirteen (13) items for sale in separate threads right now. I am not picking on John but why was he treated differently from Gary?

I personally have no issue with separate threads but I see Gary's point when his ads were removed while John's were not. The policy was revised after the posts were removed and John's ads are still in the for sale forum. I am afraid I don't understand the logic.

This is unbelievable to me, one of the little posters over the years since I joined this forum. Gary has been one of the major contributors, providing valuable information and many beautiful pictures to back up his information. I see no problem with the multiple listings, and do not understand the complaints. I somehow actually enjoy looking at the for sale items, and dont find it problematic to click on page 2!

Where else in the free world are rules applied retroactively, and the innocent people punished, who may have brought to light a problem? I know that the world is not fair, but I believe that Garys posts should be restored, and the new ruling posted at the top of the forum, and enforced, but not applied retroactively.

Gary should not be singled out! At least one of the above comments is vindictive and provides no value to the discussion, and should be deleted if the moderator is indeed unbiased.

Couldn't have said it better than the above two posts. Absolutely ridiculous around here and what's this about posting the for sale thread here for further BS commentary. Thought this was supposed to be a discussion form for police related topics, not a rule discussion forum. Mad

Ridiculous is quite accurate and one can also see the affect upon membership and thus knowledge and education. At this very moment, March 1, 2009, there are 842 Active users (599 members and 243 guests) on WAF, while at the same time there are 107 (66 members and 41 guests) on GDC. The numbers speak for themselves. Frown ~ Ian

Please restore Gary's ads....It is no different than people posting multiples on Ebay...with the exception that it is people like Gary that support this site...No big deal asking he or anyone else to condense ads just could have delivered the message in a better way...cheers, Ryan

Frankly, I don't see the problem with seperate listings. It's not as if the forum was soooo busy that Gary was taking all the space. Last time I looked the forum was posting very few listings. It makes it easier to keep track of what is still available with seperate listings.

After going through all the work of posting his listing it seems unreasonable to remove them and require they be "consolidated" after the fact. That is just my opinion and is no more valuable than anyone else.

It is not my desire to second guess the ads moderator on this. I have NO clue to the guidelines under which he is working.

I don't know who moved this thread here but in my opinion there is NOTHING more to be gained by either side of the argument. In fact continuing will only make cause more stress on this already fragile forum, so I am CLOSING this thread.

I sincerely hope that the police collecting forum can regain some of its past reputation for good manners and sincere contributions to collecting. If we kill this good thing, we only have ourselves to blame.

Regards,
William Unland
