I picked up a dagger with a 12" long triangular Damascus blade and an ivory grip. There is writing on all three sides of the blade, can anyone read it?

Very difficult to read this. It seems that there's a returning pattern on the blade

I showed this dagger to several Indian, Arabic people and even the Iman at the Virginia Islamic Center. All of them agree that the writing is Persian but they can only make out a few letters or part of a phrase. I think my picture is upside down, might make it a wee bit harder to read. Later this week I'll take it over to University of Richmond to see if anyone there can help.
