Dear collector fellows, member fisher has asked me to publish here these photographs of a PUMA navy dagger to get opinions if this dagger is period or not.
Up to now there are only these seven pics.
The blade of this dagger is without etching.

Well I don’t specialize in Navy’s - The dagger looks questionable to me for starters the maker mark……

Double stamped MM. The eagle looks a little to much like a Wehrmacht eagle which is odd for a naval dagger. I am by no means an expert but having never seen the like it may be a prototype. As to whether it is period???

If I was making a prototype or even a personal order I would never allow a double stamped MM to pass inspection.

I had an opportunity to buy a parts dagger from a long time collector that was similar to this one except with better parts fit. He acquired the pieces perhaps 30+ years ago. He told me that in fact it was a parts dagger and the pommel and cross guard were unfinished leftover stock from the Puma factory. Note the lack of detailed hand work and guilting. He explained that many collectors added parts simply to have a facsimile of this rare dagger to complete their collection. IMO, I think this dagger is similar.

There is another very similar piece of junk on mil 321 right now. Double / triple stamp MM. As they say, don`t walk - run! Scabbard on the first one is probably Okay though smile

... most of these daggers collectors will be able to encounter, are copies. Just very few believed to be legit, are known to exist. Most likely prototypes, but never accepted.
