Hi Ross,
here's a pic of my buddy's numbered SS dagger. Are you able to tell me if you can ID the original owner of this blade? If so then pls let me know...

Hi Panzerfaust: Thanks for the inquiry. Sorry to report that I am unable to identify SS Mann No. 35 480 at this time. But I am still adding numbers to my database every week and never know what I will find. I was able to identify two numbered SS daggers at The Max Show this week to men not in the SS-Dienstalterslistes. Ross Kelbaugh www.ssdaggers.comwww.ss-numbers.com

I picked up the dagger that began this thread in the CG auction... I don't think I got it for too bad of a price being that it's identifiable.

Good early dagger by Boker, but with a late period scabbard.

As a note of caution, CG has put numbers on Reddick blades in the past. I have retained his e-mail wherein he admitted to doing this. This is not meant to be a personal attack, just a statement of absolute fact. One can never be certain when the numbers were stamped, nor by whom.

At this point in my research, I have identified over 200 numbered SS daggers to men not listed in the SS-Dienstalterslistes. Along with those numbered to SS officers, it has begun to become apparent, especially for the Rhm Ehrendolch, what make of SS dagger was received by SS units from the manufacturer and the means of numbering or the style of font used if numbers were stamped. I also have a numbered partial ground SS dagger with the letter from the original SS Mann who acknowledges that the dagger was his and describes how those in his unit were numbered after the "Rhm Revolt." Documentary evidence is also being used to confirm if a SS Mann was qualified to receive an Ehrendolch. More tools are becoming available today to identify those with suspicious numbers. Enjoy! I think the best thing to do, when you have a numbered dagger, is to shoot Ross some pics of the numbers. With his experience he will be able to tell you if the numbers are good or not.
