I am not sure whether to ask here or in the Sword Forum. I had excellent answers recently about SS Dagger Grips, so I will ask if any of the members have some opinions about these sword grip emblem inserts. Hopefully, I will discover if they are original or not. There are three of them. One is a Police Sword Emblem and the two others are SS Sword Emblems. One of these is bright and shiny with no pins, the other is dull and tarnished with back pins.

If any of you fellows have some thoughts about these 3 pins, I would be very grateful. I have had them for a very long time and really have no idea about their legitimacy.

Thank you in advance,

Jerry

Jerry, the SS button on the left is a cast copy. The other two might be OK. The SS buttons are reproduced pretty widely these days and come in different levels of quality. The second SS runes button, if original, would be difficult to remove from the grip without serious damage to the grip. The prongs passed through the tang of the blade blade and folded over against the tang. At least this is the case on earlier examples. It is not the type usually seen on later "Dachau" examples. To my knowledge, police emblems' prongs were passed through the front of the grip only and not through the tang. Police emblems are often maker-marked on the reverse and I don't see that here. The prongs look a bit odd on it and show no sign of having been bent, indicating it has not been on a sword. The second SS button looks pretty good to my eye, especially with the the grooves cut around the edge to accommodate the grip wire. The prongs are long and deformed, which you would expect to see on a removed emblem. The real value here is the second SS button. However, it's use would be limited if it could be properly installed. The unscrupulous could use it to replace a police emblem on a police sword and claim it is an SS example.
