A few late war Gewehr 43 rifles were chambered for 7.92 Kurz and modified to use StG44 magazines. The project was abandoned because of reliability issues using the lighter powered cartridge. A very rare variation with only a few converted for tests. Photo is of an accepted surviving original.

Thanks for the picture Vern...
I was fortunate to do a hands on inspection of one of these rifles at the Aberdeen Ordnance Museum several years ago. I thought I had some pictures, but can't seem to lay my hands on them. Here below, is a long-barreled G43 converted to 7.92 Russian that I DID get a picture of.

Very interesting. I've heard of them in 7.92 Russian but never saw one. There was a gunsmith doing a conversion to 7.92 Russian several years ago, but with a standard length barrel. Seemed to be quite a shooter if his stats were correct
