Just picked this up, obviously someone took this apart at some point and reassembled it incorrectly. I haven't done anything to it, as I have a 30 day inspection period, provided I haven't altered anything. Was wanting some opinions as to value range and authenticity? Thanks in advance, Chris....

IMO - good.
1. Inscripcion correct with E and t 2. Correct markings with closed circle. 3. Correct scabbard with steel plated fittings. 4. Crossguards zink plated are OK 5. Grip looks OK but I have no refference if copper eagle is corrct for this dagger..

Chris. What makes you think this was assembled incorrectly? The only I see wrong is it is in the scabbard the wrong the way! SSman

I'll post more later when I'm back at my other computer. The side of the blade which carries the SS motto is on the blank side of the grip. As I have seen in other photos it should be on the same side of the grip that carries the eagle and SS runes. My assumption is that at some point it was taken down and then reassembled with the blade reversed 180.... Chris...

OK Chris. I see what you mean now. Couldn't tell that the blade was on backwards because it din't show the whole dagger in the pictures. SSman

Looks good to me but not 100% positive on copper eagle, marine?. Maybe Paul H. or Dave H. will do a post to help you out. Better yet contact Paul at http://www.lakesidetrader.com/, He should know for sure. Eric

As I said copper eagle is period for sure but I'm not sure if it is acceptable for 1196/38 SS dagger....
For instance I have NSKK M7/13 with copper eagle in handle..

I do not see any problems with the dagger. Copper looking eagles (usually a thin coat of nickel has worn off) and copper looking buttons are found occasionally on most vintages of SS daggers from time to time, especially RZM era.

What's a rough value range on one of these if you guys don't mind my asking. It has the small crack in the wood as seen in the photos, and there is a little bit of pitting/staining at the very far tip of the blade. Chris...

Being up in Alaska I've never been to a big show, etc. So I'm pretty much at the mercy of the internet sites, etc. in determining a value. Thanks again, Chris...
