Gents, Pulled this out of a local gun show. Early Auto Corps. I have seen a couple similar to this in documentation (thanks Vic and Hermann!) and they are identified as early. It has no silvering on it and doesn't look like it ever was. This too seems to be a theme. Is it possible that the regulations changed over time that stipulated silvering? Later wartime pieces are often blackened. Note brown "painted" scabbard. Original leather is black. Also note the flared scabbard throat with felt liner and wooden blade runners. Best, Rick

Very nice looking example. I had one like this with a plain blade years ago although mine had both the frog lug & hanger ring for alternate suspension & a more embellished crown pommel. I appeared in Vic & Hermann's book & I believe it still resides in Vic's stellar collection. A rare & often underappreciated model dagger.

Thank you very much Billy. I don't know how many have surfaced through the years but I seem to recall reading it to be less than 50? All the best, Rick

Thank you very much Billy. I don't know how many have surfaced through the years but I seem to recall reading it to be less than 50? All the best, Rick ... 50? No, Sir, less than half of that. Beautiful and early dagger, good find. Personally I think the silver wash has been gone during the time, but it is hard to say. From the pics it seems to be a transitional piece between the early Hirschfänger and the daggers introduced around 1909. I think it is the one coming from the Vic Diehl collection. We have just a small photo in the article. Thanks to mention Vic's and my website www.germanautoandaerocorps.com Most of the daggers known to exist are shown on that side. If you can provide us with some nice photos (info@germannavydaggers.com) we would be happy to have your dagger with better photos on our website. Thanks for showing this interesting artefact. Best; Hermann

Very rare and most beautifull dagger !!! I believe that much of Vic's collection was sold thru Herman Historica. Could I ask for a price range for your dagger ? It's been a hard item to correctly price.

Sorry Russian. I paid $500 for it. Every now and then you get lucky. It was identified as an Imperial Navy Dagger. I recall you have at least one really nice one. Am I mistaken? Johnson has a consignment item similar to mine. Asking price, $4600 or so. Cheers, Rick

Rick,
I think your dagger was offered in TX? I remember such an offer, but you were faster. Grrr. ;-)) $500 is a bargain.
There are just a few collectors out there, but usually they pay good prices for these daggers. For a good one in good condition I would always pay $2500 plus.
Best; Hermann

Hermann, A fellow collector (not daggers) bought a collection recently and this was in it. It is possible it was offered at one time but I am not aware of when and by whom. Do you recall? Kindest regards, Rick
