I have an opportunity to purchase a WPP dagger by Alcoso. It does not have the police emblem on the grip. What is the verdict on these? I have heard some say these were put together after the war. Any guidance is appreciated.

I believe the WPP dagger legitimately came both with & without grip emblem. The only real suggestion I make is get really good pictures of it so you can have a better idea if it's a period example. I'm sure you're aware there are a lot of postwar daggers out there. It's good to verify that the source is reputable or not, try to get an inspection period as well.

Thanks, Billy, Bob. As soon as I get quality photos from seller I will post them. I don't have any good close-ups yet and that is why I didn't post any. Cheers, Rick

There are more reproductions of the one without the grip eagle than there are real ones. This is one of the daggers that Atwood had made up after the war as the Navy Dagger was continued to be a produced model after the war by a few of the firms that stayed in business in the late 1940s and for some time after those years. MOST of the fakes had a pommel that wobbled and was on not straight and the grip didn't meet the bottom of the pommel evenly and the grip was larger than the bottom of the fitting in many cases.

Gents, Photos for your consideration. All comments welcomed. I need your feedback asap. Note that all parts are Alcoso but scabbard to me is WKC. Did Alcoso always use their own scabbards or purchase from others. Note fitment is superberb. No slop in grip or pommel. The real deal or not?
