Hey guys any thoughts on this, I picked it up sometime ago for a police sword of mine and always wondered why it didn't have any retaining screws. This one is the NCO type and just fair shape of paint and few so called rail car dents. It looks and feels original.

Thanks Steve,

Yes: from Paul Muller's "Dachau" sword smithy. If an EM/NCO pattern scabbard, then not often seen.

Thanks Barry,

One more question. Were these made for both SS and police type degens? Or just SS.

Steve,

I would not buy a police degen with a Dachau type scabbard.

Bear in mind that Paul Muller made about as many swords after the war as during it. I would not expect to find one of his scabbards on a Polzei Degen.

For SS only, not Police.

Thanks all,

I guess I was not to clear, I had the sword first and found the scabbard later as mine was missing when I found it. It will have to do till I find a nicer sword later.

You will need a Muller Dachau made NCO degen to match that scabbard, a very tough call.

According to Wittmann, Dachau made both police and SS swords. There is a period photo in at least one reference showing SS and/or police swords being stacked for shipment at the Dachau forge. About 6 months ago, an auction had a Dachau police officer sword listed. The police models do seem rare, as are both the NCO examples. The most common Dachau sword seems to be the SS officer type.

Thanks Grumpy...Do you know what reference book it was in? I would love to see Dachau made police degen. One would think if they made them then the hilt fittings would the same type as their SS.

I OWN A 'PMD ROSTFREI' DACHAU SS NCO SWORD IN STAINLESS. A BEAUTIFUL THING, ESP. SO NEAR TO MINT. WITTMANN COMMENTS IN HIS SS BOOK RE GI'S COBBLING THESE TOGETHER POSTWAR THAT WARTIME AND LATER ONES ARE CLEARLY VERY DIFFERENT IN TERMS OF FIT-AND-FINISH. MINE'S TIGHT AS A DRUM AND OBVIOUSLY ALL IS OF A PIECE, APPARENTLY LESS THAN 10 NCO MODELS ARE KNOWN. DW
