Hi guys,
This is a general question for all who have traveled with daggers on flights. I want to bring a dagger to the show of shows, but worry about checking it through baggage. Obviously , they will not let me carry it on. Am I worrying too much? Is there other ways for it to be more secure? Any ideas and input would be greatly appreciated.

I carry any such thing in my checked luggage. TSA has opened my suitcase twice that I know of and left a little love note each time... one time, they or the baggage handlers, broke the glass on a framed photo that I had bought.
I have a suitcase the I can lock and can be opened by TSA (look for the TSA approved sticker on the suitcase info).
If you don't trust TSA nor the baggage handlers, you can courier it to yourself to the hotel you are staying at. Probably a day or so before you leave for the show.

Transport daggers, miniatures, badges and glass cases every year (like many others) to the SOS via checked baggage flying southwest. Agents regularly have gone through my luggage, but WELL wrapped cases have made the trip unscathed and no items have ever gone missing. Shouldn't be a problem.....good luck:-D

That is good to hear! Thanks Andy! I am coming from So California. Wish they had big shows here. Even Vegas would be a great venue!

I have had no problems taking daggers in checked baggage to SOS on United. I put them in a foam cored multiple pistol case that is locked with a TSA lock. The case is designed that one can stand on it. It is nearly indestructible. I then carry it inside a large suitcase containing padding, table covers etc. I also carry collectors insurance. I have never had a problem.

I Have pelican cases. How do I go about having TSA put a lock on them? That sounds like a great idea!

You can purchase TSA locks at Walmart. TSA carries a key to unlock them but you put in your combination. If a professional thief wants in they can do it. However it is a deterrent. No system is foolproof.
