Reproduction.

Bags of these unjoined flat skulls (cast not die strucke) are popping up more and more on auction sites and militaria sale sites. They are coming from Eastern Europe and if not poor grade silver they are made from cheap alloy metals.

*Buyers beware*

These can be faked very easily!

confused
Hm.
I am not sure.
I have exact the same pattern baught years ago, very very cheap.
In my opinion it is aluminum, maybe aluminum/cink and in the deeper section there are still rests of black paint.
I would say my ring is die struck, but very hard to spot this for sure.
Last maybe 1 1/2 to 2 years in ebay sometimes are offered onready ones. Maybe all from the same source. Sometimes offered as unready stock of the Robinson Company in Oberstein/Germany.
In this case i dit some researching. Yes, up to 45 there was in now Idar-Oberstein this Company that made badges and cheap jewelry. And yes, the seller of this unready stock i dit the researching came from this city.
I can`t say this rings are real, but i think there are good chances.
Maybe the future brings more about.

From which source comes your ring E.?

If it ins`t expensive i would give this ring a chance. On the pics the second ring/inlay looks like a professional work.
For me for sure a keeper at least until more knowledge about this pattern is there.

Hi E.!
From the pics it looks real like a unready one of the pattern i have.
I took a closer look on mine - it seems it has a plating, maybe nickel?, but for sure black paint in the "peppling" of the shoulders.
Now, if you have yours in hands - what is your opinion about material and kind of making?

Aluminum and zinc are two complete different metalls. Both are very lightweight. I think the easiest way to spot it, is to clean it a little bit. Cleaned/polished aluminum gets bright and shiny - looks nearly very bright silver. Zinc stays gray and rather dull.

A for the period typical material. There are different patterns made in zinc.
IMO this pattern has a real chance to be a period one - at least a keeper untill there is maybe more knowledge about.

Whats your personal opinions to this ring?

well, I'll say what I've seen and feel..

What I've seen is - I have seen these 'unfinished' flats for sale before.. Probably 3 times in the last 5 years...

And, although the ring appears to be Zinc its more of a 'pot metal'and although cheap the bands are too thick in my opinion to be wartime... I used to think they were very late war produced pieces.
Now,I think more like directly postwar, very late 40s, 50. They are very close to some German patterns but just not there. Just my opinion,,subject to change any second grin

Yes a nice looking pattern, and as Odal suggests 100% worth holding on to in case! wink

I know I like the friendly expression! :-) If period pieces, I might not mind owning one of these! :-)
