Until further notice, new member registration for the forums at GermanDaggers.com are suspended. We have been under attack by spammers for the last week or so, and are tired of their constant attempts to hijack the forums for their advertising. Initially, we thought it might be a bot attack and took steps to block them, but the attempts continued. Tracing the IP addresses show that all originate from the Chinese Internet Backbone, so it is one or more individuals. If you wish to register for our forums, you can email me at Vern@GermanDaggers.com and I will help you get on. The forums will remain open for registered members to continue posting.

Continuing to clean out bad profiles.

I was over at the UBB Threads support forums. Looks like everybody is getting hit with spam. I'm working on a solution now. Best idea so far is to make all registrations require Administrator approval before they can post. Looking into other options but registrations should be open again in a few days.

Is it not possible just to block all .CN registrations via .htaccess or similar. 70% of all internet spam is coming from China. How many legitimate people or forum members from China have joined who are genuine active members?. I do not think I have ever seen one post. Might be extreme but having to deal with manual registration would be a major pia I would imagine.
Just ban the lot .

We do have a few members from China who post, and some interesting Chinese daggers have shown up in the forums. We tried banning several Chinese IP addresses with no success. Unfortunately, these people are using IP masking and fake IP generators with HotMail accounts. And yes, several valid members are using HotMail We've had them before but they usually posted one or two ads then went away when we banned them. This latest effert is a real pain.

Pretty annoying. At least it isn't just this forum. Suspending registration works for now. Hopefully they will give up....

Still getting an occasional spam registration attempt but none have gotten in. Any registration attempts from spam, pass-thru, or mail forwarding servers are being blocked. So far, so good
