Photos are the best, but the dagger appears original to me. Better pics might show more condition issues.

Be VERY careful, I smell a C.L. scam here.
It's classic == will sell to some one not locally???
Run away, run away..............
Right from the bottom ofthe listing:
Avoid scams, deal locally!Do NOT wire funds (Western Union, Moneygram). Beware cashier checks, money orders, shipping, non-local buyers/sellers. More info

I would do nothing other than a face to face meeting, doesn't have to be at a residence but maybe a donut shop or something. If he refuses, you know its a scam. Just saying he is willing to ship in an of itself doesn't mean its a scam.

Dont judge a person in advance ..Emailed just for fun,, got a reply...if we work out a deal, I could arrange to meet you somewhere around the Raleigh area depending on where you are. Possibly at a police station or somewhere we can both be assured of safety.
Seems legit to me

I've also had some negative Craigslist experiences, but I do not smell a rat here. He's also willing to deal with non-locals. That tells me he's trying to sell locally first (for an easier transaction). Most CL scams are easy to detect. Other than that I agree with Skylinedrive, my first impression: no red flags. Better photos might reveal more details...

I agree with zoza. We shouldn't automatically judge a potentially good (legit) item just because it's posted on CL. The reference to "non-local buyers" is simply stating that the the seller is willing to ship, not that he's looking ONLY for non-local buyers. As long as you're careful and smart about the sale you'll be fine. To jasonic... if you're still interested in this SS dagger (it appears to be available still), as others have mentioned it is overpriced, but not by much. If you're not looking to resell it, and don't need room for profit, I'd offer the seller $1,500 for it and go from there. The blade is in exceptional condition compared to many I see on the private (non-dealer) market. That's a huge plus! On the other hand the plating on the guards is showing some moderate lifting. This definitely hurts the dagger's value. The scabbard looks good from what I can see in the photos. I enhanced the grip in Photoshop (since the photos are so dark) and don't see any noticeable cracks or chips on either site. That being said, the shot of the back is too dark to get a complete picture even using Photoshop so a better photo is advised. Bottom line... any time you can get an SS dagger (even a late-war RZM) with no grip issues, a good blade, and solid scabbard, for under $2,000 you're in good shape. This is just one man's opinion, but I've seen a lot of daggers come and go, in far worse condition than this one, but for more money. In the end it is your decision and yours alone. No opinions on this forum or any other will substitute for an in-person inspection, and a decision based on solid research and a deep understanding of SS daggers. Best, Darren I collect WW2 German SS Daggers.

Dave, no I'm not the seller. The ad shows Raleigh (which I assume is NC). I'm in Missouri. I don't sell on Craigslist personally, but do buy from CL sellers on occasion if the deal is worth the time
