Hey guys
I was lucky to find this Imperial IMO 1901 officer dirk for my collection.
To me,it's an interesting and beautiful piece made by Pack.
The blade is very nice, the grip wire wound on ivory,but most beautiful is the open crown pommel detail.
The scabbard has nice patina and as you can see,the lower ring was probably factory removed.
Interesting is the long portepee and extra long suspension hanger.
Also there are matching numbers on blade and pommel.

I'm very happy with this one

What a spectacular navy while I certainly don’t know much about imperial navy’s I can tell by looking at this one it’s a Pack through and through. The detail to the pommel – crossguard and scabbard are amazing Pack seems to have had a long tradition of beautiful hand work setting their weapons apart from the competition makes you wonder they had to have a reputation during the period of producing some of the finest edge weapons and must have been very sought after by the service man wanting the best. Ivan congratulations on a great addition to your world class Pack collection.

That's a Pack Ohliger and Co piece, at the time it was made nothing to do with E Pack at all,E Pack did take this company over in 1922.

Gary,i have to disagree with you.My opinion on this is,that the company Pack Ohliger & co started in 1909 and in 1920s is changed to Ernst Pack and Sohne.In beginning IMO there was two owners of the company,Pack and Ohliger and later on,the Pack took over the company probably with his son.
That's why the trademark didn't changed.
And also the quality and numbering of the part ,same as you can see on third reich navy daggers.
That's my opinions and that's what I believe.

I'm not in dispute with either of you and do not want to split hairs here, my only concern is if we do not correct these small mistakes in the ownwership of a company with a specific brand name at a specific time then we run the chance of it finally become an "E. Pack" dagger instead of a "Pack Ohliger & Co" dagger, whether the company split and the two owners went there seperate ways later and the brand name was continued in use by one of the original partners is irrelevant, this dagger was not made by the Pack Company as is stated in the initial post of this thread.
Is it a great looking dagger, Yes it is. Does it use a makers mark later used by the Ernst Pack firm, yes it does, doesn't make it an Ernst Pack dagger.

Gary great info! And point taken. I wonder if Ohliger continued to make edge weapons after the split ?

Fisher lists several Ohligers in his Quick Reference.

I believe it might be the same company F.Ed.Ohliger who did make a few SA daggers, quite a rare maker I believe, I'm not 100% sure of this fact though.

Your right Julius Ohliger did also make SA daggers, it could be either of these.

Georgeous piece from hard to locate producer. Nice to see one other than WKC and Eickhorn. What do you think of the portepee and hanger? I have seen imperial navy portepees like this on Seebattalion bayonettes but not on a dagger. Really attractive. Any idea on the hanger? Anyone seen one like this before? Seems rare IMO. I am drooling . Well done and congratulations! Lovely piece.

... unusual and interesting dagger, for sure. I like the 'heavy-dagger-like' scabbard end. Lovely handwork to the brass details.

The hangers are probably more rare than the entire dagger, very nice, very hard to find.

Portepee belongs to the DFAC, a rare beast, just a few known to exist worldwide. No clue why it sits on this dagger, but with Imperial naval officers a lot of things are possible.

Pack/Ohliger. Please keep in mind, these Solingen companies were often family owned. We do have an Imperial DFAC dagger on our site with the same correct marking: http://www.germanautoandaerocorps.com/automobilclub/english/side_weapons.html

... the hangers in your photo post are usually made from dark blue wool. And even they are hard to find.

What you have on your dagger is different, even I have just heard of it til now.

Also,i found out,that the red and black stripes belong to Kingdom of Württemberg,is this correct?

that is not the same. On the hangers and Portepee you see black, white and red, the Imperial German colors.

A fantastic early Imperial Navy dagger in great condition with rare accoutrements that makes this a scarce 'open market' acquisition. This one I would gladly add to my humble Navy dagger grouping.
