I normally don't mess with medals unless it's shooting and hunting related. It dropped in my lap and it looked good so I took a chance on it. I hope it's good. EK1 has no maker mark, three piece construction, can see the seam, magnetic core. Has anyone seen a flaw like this on any others. How much do you think this ones worth in it's present condition? Thanks for the help.

I believe these frames were die stamped and then soldered with the cast iron planchet sandwiched between. This looks like a casting flaw which makes me suspicious. I am no expert although I collect EKs. I have never seen this feature on an original piece. Rick

I certainly haven't much knowledge when it comes to these, but while I was researching this one, I did see one that had a flaw in the same place but the picture wasn't all that great and I can't remember the site. These type of flaws happen with coins but I'm no expert either. Thanks for the reply.

I've seen flaws before but nothing quite like that. Considering it looks massive magnified it probably is not near as obvious in hand. Some knights crosses show a flaw. I'll have to take a closer look at my EK's.

Thanks Joe,
Your right, it's not that obvious in hand and it's not until I look at it under magnification that I think I understand what is happening with some EK's. I have found more with flaws. Am I allowed to post the website here for you to see? Thanks.
