I was looking at some neat Russian medals brought back from Max!
Good looking stuff and since we have no section for these kinds and others!
I decided to ask if anyone can show Russian edge weapons!
I remember having navy dirks and such from 1950's and had russian sword{Cossack} before all the fakes came!
I bet early russian swords or edge weapons are hard to find!
Anyone care to explain the market or whats going on?
I bet Jim W has traveled and maybe he can explain! Thanks

Hi Paul.
I remember talking to a Russian about the medals. He old me, "we had medals. no money, but the government always gave us medals". Consequently, they do not really have that much value. Of course, other opinions are welcome.
Russian daggers actually sell fairly well if original. I attach a photo of some Russian daggers I had. All are gone now. also, some belts.
As to what's on the market on E bay and other places. I believe it is mostly new, except for the soviet era daggers. The reproduction of them is too easy to spot.
Anyone else.

Jim
Yes those navy daggers are the kinds we had way back!
And the enamel medals were going good at Max! They are not cheap like in old days!

That is good news on the medals. I have a few originals.
At the Antic Bazar in Warsaw, Back in about 1996, the venders would lay out a blanket and it would be covered with legitimate Russian medals.
I guess I should have bought more.

My Kindjal,, made in 1912. All matching. Not in the best shape, but I like. Has probably seen extensive use.

Dear Gentlemen, In February 2014 a new comprehensive book about dress Soviet daggers was published. As I collect Soviet weapons, I was invited to join the crew of authors and we did some big research. During the research we discovered facts about very rare Soviet daggers, unknown even in nowadays Russia, I don't mention other countries: river fleet dagger, marshal dagger, railroad dagger of Stalin era. So as the result, we got a book of 224 pages with about 500 photos of daggers and officers. I was honoured to place there a photo of my grandfather, who was a navy officer and of course had a dagger, which now I keep and which later will present to my son. Hard cover, full-color, and both Russian and English text.

I don't have much in the way of archived pictures for the Imperial Russian types of swords and a few daggers to share, with possibly the exception of a Shashka (if I can find it). But here is a Soviet style example with as found what I thought might be an Imperial era bayonet. But then in a comparison of the markings etc. I think that its probably Soviet as well. Best Regards, FP

Hello Fred,
you are right. This is a soviet shashka M1927 with a bayonet for a Mosin Nagant rifle M1891.
Regards, Oleg.
