hello all.this thread isn`t one of my usual stamping grounds!

i`ve been approached by a friend of a friend, who`s grandfather has a ring. all he will provide his grandson, is the opportunity to photograph it, he won`t allow him to take it from the house!. so he has sent me these pics. there are only 3, but based on these, can/will anyone furnish an opinion as to the originality of this ring ? please.

Hard to say on a ring this worn and with fuzzy pictures to boot but I don't see anything obviously wrong with it. You need more and better pictures especially of the inside.

ring looks ok from the fuzzy pics,,much of the value may lay in whose name is inscribed inside, that is,who it was presented to,,,

The name looks like "Hartmann", might be an original but definitely get some good pics of the engraving.

thanks for the responses so far chaps. the only pic he`s got , so far, which shows a part of the himmler signature is this one. not the best, but not being a militaria collector he had no isea what to photograph when he had the opportunity.

just to clarify. i`m not out to buy this ring, they aren`t my `thing`, and in any case the ring is not for sale. it`s just that the guy never even knew his grandfather had it, only recently , he mentioned it. said he took it from the finger of a man in a POW compound, along with another, which he lost during the war.

anyone turn anything up on the name or date?. as i said, i`m just doing this as a favour for a friend`s friend.

if, as seems to be the general `flow` on here, this is ok, what would be a rough ballpark value?, it`s not for insurance purposes, and it won`t be sold, but the old fella who owns is unsure of the real value, and refuses to believe that it may be worth more than a hundred or so!!.

oh, and a slightly belated merry christmas to all on here!!. Cool

i like it also, the date is known, and from the blurry pic the engraving appears ok, i agree about mr boyles approval though, that said he isnt the only chap that can do it, although he is very ,very well accepted, and is the best in the buisness, most wont buy without him.

From the photos alone, I'd say you very likely have an original totenkopfring. The date is a little larger than most I've seen, but the rest of the inside engraving looks right. The "Himmler" signature on later rings usually looks thinner than the rest of the engraving on the ring. A 'hands-on" inspection on all rings is necessary, but I don't think you'll have any problems with this one.
