UBB.threads Forums General Interest Community Center Interviewing a Wehrmacht veteran?

My neighbor is a veteran of the Wehrmacht. I speak to him quite a bit about his experiences. I want to put together a good interview and record it so I am here to ask for help. Give me good questions. I always get there and forget what to ask so I've been writing things down in order to get a real thorough interview. He was a member of the Hitler Youth, the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) and then the Wehrmacht before he was captured by the Americans in Normandy at age 18. So that should help you make your questions relevant. I will copy these question down and ask them as long as they are proper and relevant. Thanks for the help. Adam,,some quick and the basic stuff - chronicle his service time,,exactly!...

Ask what district of HJ he was in. Age in and age out. How he was trained, issued uniform/equipment , duties etc..

Same for his RAD service, what unit, where, how long, duties etc.

And, so on for his Wehrmacht service.
What unit, who was commander,, how trained, issued what.. Where he fought/was stationed. How he was captured.

You can ask what awards he won.
If he'd ever seen an infamous/famous 3rd reich personality.
Does he keep in contact currently with any friends he made while in the different units.

If you want to get really deep,, you could ask if he actually killed ,and how many.
How he was treated by the Allies after his capture.
And, if he knew anything about the KZ system during the war and what he thought postwar about it..
