Waffenfabrik Max Weyersberg, rarely seen,in my opinion this piece is extremely early in manufacture, the blade is flawless due mainly to the addition of a thin strip of leather slid down into the scabbard between the scabbard runners, this has protected the blade for all these years, I have seen this on one other DJ hirschfänger which was a extremely early Hörster with a maker mark more commonly seen on late Weimar edged weapons.
The fittings are very heavy nickel silver with the remnants of the lacquer in the recesses, they have turned the blackest of any of my hirschfängers, you only see this trait on the earlist vintage DJ hirschfängers. The leather on the scabbard is in fine condition with no rips or tears, truly a wonderful sight. I should think that this piece was not used much and kept for all these years in wonderful condition. It came with an all green shooting/Staff bayonet knot, I believe this to be original to the piece and I suspect that the original owner was a military man at an earlier time and chose to use his knot from his military life.

An extremely interesting hunting dagger, only for the advanced, experienced collector. Nicely patinated, in wonderful contrast to remaining portions of frosted silvering.
Thank you for showing!
