Hey guys, anyone know anything about antique straight razors? I picked up a real nice one this morning with a WW1 rifle, it's made by Boker and is model 348 with the original box and the handles are ivory, NM condition. Anyone know where I can get some info on it? Pictures to follow soon. Thanks

Fritziii

Google Boker. They are still producing knives
in Germany.Perhaps even straight razors yet.
Smokey Mountain Knives in TN I think are their
US outlet.

I recently sold several including a Boker on Ebay. Because there were literally millions of these made they are quite common. Go on Ebay and you will find several identical to yours.

I got about $100 for the top one like you have. Unfortunately most go for about $15 or $20.

Here is one that is similar but I think maybe British.

The sides are bone. Almost all naturl razors are bone and not ivory.

Yours looks like ivory. But I was told by collectors that normally this is bone.

I was always under the impression that the higher end ones were always ivory.. I gtta a pretty cool one I 'll try and find and post a photo of..

Now the real question:
How many of you guys can actually use these on your face?! I really want to try [as the shave is the best bar none] but my Father says I'm nuts............

Yes the are. But they make it clear they made no edged weapons from 1933 till 1945! Big Grin
Anyone whose ever tried shaving with one of these knows there are certain lost skills that should never be revived!

Here is mine, a rare maker. My grandfather always shaved with a straight razor.

I guess it's just like collecting daggers. Condition, rarity of maker, imbellishment and some vintage and antique ones go for a good amount of money. But so do some new ones.

Pretty incredible looking razor.

Amazing such beauty, quality, and style was put into a item used to shave your face.

Guess back in the day the quality and service of your product kept you in business unlike todays junk products that rely on fancy commercials, celebrity endorsements, and other marketing gimmicks.

But as long as we are taking it they sure will be giving it.

One of my grandfathers was a barber after WWI. It is no problem shaving with a straight razor. All you need is a leather razor strop, shaving soap, brush and plenty of Iodine, gauze and tape. Smile
